Spooktacular Halloween adventures, new exhibitions and more at PAMA this October

BRAMPTON, ON (October 11, 2023) - A series of spooktacular Halloween adventures awaits you at PAMA's boo-seum this October. Plus explore exciting new museum exhibitions opening this month:

Spooktacular Halloween Adventures

PAMA Tours: Into the ShadowsThursday, Oct. 19, 7-8:30 p.m.Saturday, Oct. 21, 3-4:30 p.m. This Halloween season, explore the hidden histories of the Peel County Courthouse and Jail in the new Into the Shallows tour! Delve into the true stories of law, order and folklore from Peel's past and discover a darker side of our heritage. With records from the archives and artifacts from our museum, a different part of Peel's history will be unveiled! Space is limited and registration is required. Public $8.86 + HST, Members $7.08 + HST (includes general admission).

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led charitable organization whose goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential School System (RSS) and subsequent Sixties Scoop (SS) on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote healing and Reconciliation.

Please be aware that this exhibition contains subject matter that may be disturbing to some visitors and may be especially difficult for Survivors of the Residential School System. Halloween at the BOO-seumSaturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Create a haunted craft, join a family friendly spooky tour, and see if you can guess what's in our mystery boxes. Recommended for children ages 5 - 12; guardians must accompany children. This drop-in is included in general admission. Members are free.

Gothic Block Printing WorkshopSunday, Oct. 29, 1:30 - 4 p.m. Join us for a spooky printmaking workshop at PAMA! Discover the art of linocut prints as we explore techniques. Get creative and craft your own haunted impressions inspired by native plants. This program includes a tour of the exhibition In Her Garden: Amanda McCavour and Jannick Deslauriers. All supplies are included; must be comfortable handling carving tools. Space is limited and registration is required. Public: $17.50 + HST, Members $15 + HST.

New Exhibitions

This is How We Do It: Creating Museum ExhibitionsOn now - Nov. 2024 Visit this interactive exhibition to learn what it takes to create museum exhibitions at PAMA. This engaging exhibition will guide visitors through the behind-the-scenes of exhibition development and will lift the curtain on a small part of museum work.

Our Voices, Our JourneysOn now - Spring 2024 This exhibit is a celebration of one of the many black communities in Peel Region. It highlights the personal journeys of leaders and mentors from the North Peel Community Church congregation. Their photos and objects illustrate stories of immigration and family life, and how they established a community of faith in Caledon.

Nadya Kwadibens: The Red Chair SessionsOct. 21, 2023 - Feb. 25, 2024 The Red Chair Sessions is an ongoing open-call portraiture series that places importance on the acknowledgement and reclamation of Indigenous lands and the revitalization of Indigenous languages. This series ultimately disrupts colonial narratives, centres Indigenous Peoples who have been here since time immemorial and reminds us that we are all guests on Indigenous land.

Nadya Kwandibens is Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) from the Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation in northwestern Ontario. She is an award-winning portrait and events photographer, founder of Red Works Photography, a Canon Ambassador, the current Photo Laureate for the City of Toronto, and has travelled extensively across Canada for over 16 years.

This exhibition is organized by The Muse - Douglas Family Art Centre in Kenora, Ontario.

Between the Clouds and the Stars: Innovations in AerospaceOct. 21 - March 17, 2024 Get lost in aerospace at PAMA. Visitors may be surprised to hear about the impacts that companies right here in Peel region have made to international space exploration. From early innovations like the Avro Arrow to the Canadaarm and ongoing missions, you can go to space from here!
